Mediation and Couples Counseling

couple conflict mediation

Mediation allows two disputing parties to reach a mutual agreement by utilizing a neutral mediator who identifies the issues/desired outcome of each party and facilitates a dialogue with the goal of reaching an agreement between the parties. Essentially, it is a negotiation facilitated by a neutral third party. It is generally a short-term, structured, task-oriented, and hands-on process to help people in conflict find common ground and deal with unrealistic expectations.

The role of the mediator is to interpret concerns, relay information between the parties, frame the issues, and define the problems. The mediation process does not focus on truth or fault. Questions of which party is right or wrong are generally less important than the issue of how the problem can be resolved. This can be achieved either by having both parties in the same room together or in separate rooms with the mediator providing the ongoing information in real-time so that the disputing parties have a choice of the participation in a non-confrontational setting. Through mediation, we offer creative solutions and assist in drafting a final settlement.

Couples Therapy is offered as a less structured option for enhancing communication, intimacy and conflict resolution. Create Change provides both of these private pay solutions to couples and families experiencing stress, loss, trauma, and other situations that break down the ability to solve problems and communication effectively. We look forward to providing support in these new areas.
